Navigating the culinary landscape of the Valley while adhering to a plant-based diet can sometimes feel like embarking on a treasure hunt. But I’m here to help! Whether you’re vegan for ethical reasons or for health benefits, I’ve tried and tested many vegan dishes in the area to put together a guide to some of my favorite options. Though I’m not a vegan myself, I’m passionate about healthy eating and discovering new foods. Plus, I find it’s almost more interesting to find a vegetable dish as fascinating as the meat dishes. So, let’s explore together and discover the best vegan dishes across eleven restaurants in the Valley, showcasing a variety of flavors, textures, and culinary innovations. Happy (and healthy) eating!! xoM
- Welcome Diner: Nestled in DTPHX, Welcome Diner offers a taste of southern comfort along with some interesting vegan options. Their Jackfruit Po’ Boy (the delicious photo above), served on a soft Noble Bread bun with tangy red cabbage slaw, is a must-try. Executive Chef Ian Rosales ensures that vegan diners feel right at home with his dedication to providing plant-based options.
- Tarbell’s Tavern: Tarbell’s Tavern on Camelback Road offers a cozy ambiance and a menu that caters to all dietary preferences. The Damn Good Bowl Of Noodles, available in a vegetarian and vegan-friendly version, is a comforting dish that promises to satisfy any craving.
- Jinya Ramen Bar: Jinya Ramen Bar offers three vegan ramen options. Start your meal with the Sautéed Broccolini before diving into my favorite, the Vegan Red Fire Opal ramen, a yuzu-flavored hot and sour soup with tofu, sautéed bamboo shoot, simmered shiitake mushrooms, cilantro, chili oil and lime.
- CRUjiente Tacos: CRUjiente Tacos, located in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood, offers a modern take on traditional Mexican cuisine from Jason Morris and Chef Richard Hinojosa. Their Mushroom Taco, paired with chips and guacamole, refreshing gazpacho, and the best margarita in town, is just about my idea of heaven.
- The Gladly: At The Gladly, Chef Bernie Kantak’s culinary expertise extends well beyond his famous Stetson Chopped Salad. Indulge, for instance, in the Roasted Vegetables and Ancient Grains bowl, a delightful dish made with locally sourced ingredients, including a medley of mushrooms, roasted vegetables, and a hazelnut vinaigrette.
- FnB: Tucked away in downtown Scottsdale, FnB delights diners with its veggie-heavy menu crafted by Chef Charleen Badman. Don’t miss the spicy broccoli with lemon dairy-free aioli, a flavorful starter that showcases the restaurant’s commitment to fresh and seasonal ingredients. With a rotating menu that highlights the best of Arizona produce, FnB is a must-visit for plant-based food enthusiasts.
- Lom Wong: Experience the vibrant flavors of Thailand at Lom Wong, where traditional dishes are prepared with a modern twist. Vegan diners can indulge in the Burmese Tomato and Tea Leaf Salad, which is a refreshing blend of flavors and textures. Located in Phoenix, Lom Wong offers an authentic Thai dining experience with a focus on sustainability and community.
- Chilte: Celebrated for its modern Mexican cuisine, Chilte in downtown Phoenix offers vegan-friendly options that don’t compromise on flavor. The vegan version of their beef Birria Tacos, made with hibiscus (flor de jamaica) flowers, is a testament to Chef Lawrence (L.T.) Smith’s culinary creativity. Named one of the best new restaurants in the United States, Chilte is ideal for those seeking innovative vegan dishes with a Mexican flair.
- Sandfish Sushi and Whiskey: While sushi may seem off-limits for vegans, Sandfish Sushi and Whiskey in Scottsdale challenges that notion with creative vegan offerings. Try the Karaage Fried Cauliflower Bao Buns – bao buns stuffed with karaage-fried cauliflower, kimchi, yuzu aioli, and pickled veggies – for a fusion of Japanese and Western flavors.
- Pita Jungle: With a menu inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors, Pita Jungle offers a plethora of vegan options. From tabouli to lentil salad, there’s something for every palate. New to the menu, try their Street-Noodle Stir Fry for a spicy and satisfying meal that showcases the restaurant’s commitment to fresh and wholesome ingredients.
- Original ChopShop: At Original ChopShop, healthy and delicious dishes are the norm. My favorite is the Green Curry Tofu bowl, which features green curry tofu with green onion, sesame seeds, cilantro, sugar snap peas, and your choice of two bases. I usually choose quinoa and grilled vegetables and ask for extra sauce. 🙂
