Heading into the second week of April, it appears the state of AZ will be on shelter-in-place orders at least until April 30. I plan to highlight fun local takeout ideas to alleviate some of the stress of cooking and cleaning and to support the local restaurant economy, who needs our help now more than ever. Together and united we can do this! xoM
(Please note that if you are reading this through my blog subscription the URL for the IG pages does not show up…you will have to go to my website to see the photos. Sorry for the confusion but maybe one day WordPress can fix this!)
Because you have a very special occasion:
Binkley’s Restaurant
2320 E Osborn Rd. Phoenix
602.388.4874
www.binkleysrestaurant.com
Chef Keven Binkley has been a defining force on the AZ restaurant scene, earning various James Beards nominations for his creativity and talent. To dine at Binkley’s Restaurant is a truly unique experience, and he is now offering Binkley’s At Home, where for $65 a person, you will get a specially curated 6 course meal. Follow him on Instagram for news on the menu, which changes weekly. Wine is also discounted at 50% off. You must sign up online for pick up service, and it is one of the hardest “reservations” to get right now.
Because it is the hottest restaurant in town:
Vecina
3433 N 56th St, Phoenix
602.675.2000
www.vecinaphx.com
Right out of the starting gate, Vecina received a coveted James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant in the Southwest region, which says a lot about the quality of their food. They are offering curb side pick up Tuesday thru Saturday from 4:00 to 7:30 pm, as well as local takeout specials on packaged beer, wine and cocktails.
Because normally you cannot get in:
Glai Baan
2333 E Osborn Rd, Phoenix
603.595.5881
www.glaibaanaz.com
While Glai Baan has been touted as having the best Thai food in the valley, Hubby and I had yet to dine there. One reason is they do not take reservations and word on the street is that if you don’t show up early, you are not going to get in. However, we did pick up dinner the other night and were delighted. Don’t miss the Kanom Jeeb (pork dumplings) and the Phi Phi Punch! For pick up daily noon to 8:00 pm.
Because you cannot resist anything tikitastic:
Hula’s Modern Tiki
7213 E 1st Ave, Scottsdale
480.970.4852
www.hulasmoderntiki.com
Mai Tais and Scorpion Bowls to go? Count me in! Throw in a couple of Luau Pork Plates, a Blackened Ahi Sandwich and a Vegan Jungle Tofu Bowl, and you pretty much have my family covered. Takeout and delivery through Postmates from noon to 8:00 pm daily.
Because you cannot live without your juice fix:
Juice Core
7137 E Stetson Dr #10, Scottsdale
602.524.4030
www.juicecore.com
I have been a fan of Juice Core for many years, and now my girls crave their Turmeric Sunrise, 24 Carrot and the Strawberry Fields Forever. I cannot live without their smoothies, specifically the Warrior Food, which has bananas, almond mylk, peanut butter, vegan protein and cacao. They also sell Smoothie Kits, which I have yet to try. Open daily from 10 am to 4 pm for pick up, and they offer free delivery within a 10 mile radius with a minimum order of $30.
Because you have a lot of mouths to feed:
Tocaya Organica
4712 N Goldwater Blvd, Suite 1210, Scottsdale
480.681.4100
2525 E Camelback Rd #115, Phoenix
480.378.3910
7012 E Greenway Pkwy #100
480.676.3469
If you are serving a minimum of 4 people or more, you can order from the catering menu on the Tocaya Organica website for items such as Burrito Boxes, Keto Bowls, and my favorite, the Taco Bar, which Includes black beans, chips and house salsa, toppings (pico de gallo, vegan chipotle crema, shaved cabbage, cilantro and onions), corn tortillas, choice of two proteins and two quesos. For delivery and local takeout daily, 11:00 am to 9 pm.
Pomo Pizzeria
8977 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale
480.998.1368
www.pomogroup.com
For delicious pizzas and “Pasta a Casa” kits, Pomo Pizzeria is a pleaser. Order for curbside pick up where they have been advertising 30% off your order. Va Bene! Also with Biltmore, Gilbert and Downtown Phoenix locations.
Because you want to support the new kid:
Chauncey Social
17767 N Scottsdale Rd suite 100, Scottsdale
480.565.6488
www.chaunceysocial.com
Chauncey Social features a nightly to-go special that serves four, for instance tacos on Tuesday, pot roast on Thursdays and fried chicken on Friday. In addition, Chauncey Social will feature to-go liquor and drinks, and there is a rumor going around that every order comes with a roll of TP. I have always thought that would be a clever idea.
Because you need help at Easter:
Cafe ZuZu at the Hotel Valley Ho
6850 E Main St, Scottsdale
480.421.7712
www.hotelvalleyho.com
Make Easter easy by picking up or having it delivered! Choose from Honey Baked Ham, a Pork Rack or Prime Rib, with sides like Bacon and Leek Potato Casserole and Cafe ZuZu Chopped Salad. Place your order by Thursday, April 9 at 5 pm, for pick up on Sunday, April 12 between 10 am and 6 pm. There is free delivery within five miles for orders over $100.
Voila French Bistro
10135 E Vía Linda, Scottsdale
480.614.5600
www.voilafrenchbistro.com
In lieu of its annual Easter Brunch, Voila French Bistro is offering a delicious French meal for takeout. The three course menu includes a Niçoise salad, traditional beef Bourguignon served with potatoes and Crème Brulée for dessert. Cost is $39 per person and there is an option to add on a bottle of wine. Please order in advance by Thursday, April 9.
Notable Temporary Closures: I am sad to see the following shutter for the month of April, but for every goodbye, there is a hello!
FnB, Franco’s Italian Caffe, Little Miss BBQ, T. Cooks, and Hearth 61.
