When school lets out, most of my friends take the opportunity to get out of town and celebrate the beginning of summer. While that is tempting, I find myself at home regrouping and recharging. The past few months have been exhilarating, exciting and very emotional. My husband ushered in new decade, one which was accompanied by much fêting and fun, but also a lot of introspection about what the next phase in our lives will look like. In addition, our middle child has decided to leave the proverbial nest early and attend boarding school in the fall, following the footsteps of our oldest daughter. This leaves one kid at home, presenting new opportunities for me, but also a gigantic hole in my heart.
This is a long-winded way of saying that our summer plans are still a bit up in the air. I can tell you that we had planned on going to France for a date week à deux, just me and Hubby, but we have pivoted rather unexpectedly to something different (you may have to catch me on Instagram for the latest). For the moment I shall call it la grande surprise, or – to give you just a little clue – la grande sorpresa.
This summer marks the first summer in 7 years that I will not be attending the Aspen Food & Wine Classic, and while I am sick about it, there are some other plans up my sleeve. I can tell you with some certainty that we will be in the Hill Country for the Fourth of July for the grand Texas tradition of summer camp pick up. On VRBO we rented a ranch on the banks of the Guadalupe River that must have seen its glory days in the 1980’s, replete with an entertaining area in the shape of Texas. (No joke…check out the link.)
We also plan on spending a couple weeks in Santa Barbara at the conclusion of the long course swim season and just before the kids scatter to their respective schools. And, as always, I will continue to report on the food scene here in the fabulous Valley of the Sun.
In the meantime, to kick off Summer of 2019, enjoy some pics from our recent trip to the serene Amangiri in Utah celebrating Hubby. And don’t forget to stay tuned to catch our mystery adventure! xoM

It is a great spot right on the Guadalupe. A bit dated, but it is a kick! I will post a lot on IG when we are there. xoxo
