I started writing my blog, TEXAZTASTE, in the spring of 2013, a little over 8 years ago. This passage of time seems unreal to me. After my mother passed away in 2011, I had a tough time reconciling the fact that both my parents were gone, and that I was truly on my own. I missed them so much and all we did as a family, especially the joy we found in traveling and eating.
When my mother went on a trip, not only would she would collect menus, wine labels, and business cards, but she would also take photos of special dishes on a disposable camera. She relished showing me her photos and souvenirs from her travels.
From this inspiration, my first blog posts started as a travelogue, as a way to share my travels and foodie adventures as if I were carrying on the conversation with my mother. Today TEXAZTASTE has become a way to explore and contribute to the Phoenix food scene and beyond.
Writing a blog led me down a path of creative exploration. To improve my content, I rediscovered photography, and have been working on building a presence on social media through Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
Social media opened up many channels for writing and photography, and in particular in meeting and networking with other influencers. My photography has been featured in Green Living Magazine, So Scottsdale, and A Taste of AZ magazine. What has been very exciting for me is that I have recently become a contributor to A Taste of AZ and The Tasting Panel magazines.
As I take my journey from blogosphere to the printed word, I wanted to share with you some of my articles and features. A Taste of AZ is a quarterly publication that shares stories about the Phoenix food and beverage scene, and the people behind it in my adopted home of Arizona. The Tasting Panel is a publication for the wine and spirit industry highlighting the hottest trends and tastemakers. Check out my most recent articles published in The Tasting Panel magazine; a feature on Scottsdale’s Maggiore Group, and the transportive bar concepts from Phoenix-based Barter & Shake Creative Hospitality.
It is hard to believe that out of this tremendous sense of loss, I found a new purpose. And it all started 10 years ago today. Please take a moment to drop me a note in the comment box to let me know what you think! XoM
